A simple pleasure

Sometimes it's the simplist things that give lots of pleasure - Do you know what I have just had for breakfast? no of course not, well it was a beautiful soft boiled egg with soldiers.........perhaps nothing out of the ordinary, but for me it was such a delight that I haven't been able to have for years.  You see I have been intolerant of eggs for years and just recently started to try them again, very slowly and fingers crossed as long as I don't over do them, it seems to be ok.

Yesterday I was very good and wrote a post, including photos and just when I was nearing the end, you've guessed the computer crashed ggrrrrr...........

I was helping out at the Cancer Care boutique again, date culling and sorting out the craft supplies to give me some ideas for the craft taster afternoon.  I also spotted two new pairs of sandals, a nice long floaty skirt and a fancy cardi and just had to bring them home with me............Having gone through the materials I thought of doing fragrant shoe stuffers, fabric flowers for either hair or brooches, sashico mug rugs, perhaps a simple hardanger, then the creative juices slipped so I shall have to think of perhaps one more, hopefully these could all be done within the two hour time frame.

Last week I took in one of my little knitted rabbits and yesterday one of the ladies asked me for the pattern as she had felt inspired to pick up her needles again.  Isn't that great! so lovely to keep all these crafts alive.

Several years ago I planted a few sage plants and I know that they should have been thinned but when they produce a wonderful display of flowers like this, I really don't want to disturb them
the photo doesn't do the  flowers justice, they are much darker, a very vibrant purple
The Valerian is a bit of a pain as it grows in any nook, cranny and crack and is so hard to get rid of, but it does give a pretty splash of pink

We have revamped an overgrown bed where the roses had gone to briar, the geranium has certainly taken advantage by spreading its roots

This pretty little rose is rather out of sight being where the washing line and the satalite dish are, so I don't mind cutting some of its blooms to bring inside where we can enjoy them

I also wanted to thank everyone for your get well wishes for Rebecca - she is feeling better, it just takes her longer to recovery these days.

Off to play in the craft room..........
take care

  1. Great news all round, Chrissie. I particularly smiled at the egg reference as we've just got some hens and eating eggs is now a very special pleasure for us! Your garden looks lovely and I'm so glad to hear Rebecca is continuing to improve. Axxx

    1. How lovely for the children, nothing better than going egg hunting and the flavours are just something else. What sort of hens do you have?
We had a real mixture at the farm, inc bantams, white sussex and some that laid blue eggs. We also had growers just for the meat and the children were never allowed to give them names, only the pets ones. Must confess to showing some of the better bits of the unruly garden lol Have a lovely Easter xx

  2. I love eggs, so I know what you mean about about a simple pleasure, it must have been awful having to avoid them. A soft boiled egg with toast soldiers, we call that a dippy egg, yum yum. It sounds like you've got lots of ideas for your craft afternoon, it's going to be so much fun. The pelargoniums (geraniums) which I had in tall pots last year were shoved in the greenhouse over winter so that the pots didn't crack with the frost. They were still flowering at the start of the year so I thought I'd have a go at saving them. Usually I just compost them at the end of the year but I was very lazy last year. I've chopped them right back and repotted them and they're putting out new shoots so I should get another year out of them. Shows what a mild winter we've had over here.

    1. They are so versatile aren't they and ideal for a quick snack, our local restaurant do a clearish veg soup (can't remember the name) and they pop in a poached egg, very tasty.
Do you know, I did exactly the same with some older straggly geraniums instead of throwing them away, thinking they had two chances, and like your cuttings they have mostly taken. Free colour show!! Enjoy the long weekend what ever you are doing xx

  3. Your geranium looks as though it is massive! It is beautiful though. I think (hoping!) that I have managed by some fluke to keep three geraniums alive outside over the winter (a first for me), but it is amazing to see how big they can grow in the right conditions for them. Your whole garden is looking beautiful! Glad to know that Rebecca is doing well. xx

    1. Yes it is huge and do you know I hardly do anything to it, for several years it didn't flower but now it's open to the light it produces masses of blooms.
Hope you have a great weekend xx

    1. I so agree, we haven't bothered with our own here but our local restaurant sells free range eggs and they too are a lovely colour and very tasty. They have been selling lemons, freshly picked so no wax on them and I know it sounds strange, but they are nice and sweet, ideal for chilled lemon water. Hope you have a happy easter xx

  5. I love to see bits of your garden with the colourful flowers. Great little project ideas - you could do the fragrant sachets to hang among clothes also. good to hear Rebecca is feeling better now. Hoping Chris gets back good use of his hand. It must be very frustrating for him at times.

  6. Its nice this time of year but July/August flowers just don't like the heat and are a bit sparse. Good idea for sachets, easy and quick, just what we want. Poco poco for both of them really, I think they both have to be patient.....easier said 'than done xx
