We are apparently in a red danger zone now - very scary - and a little while ago we noticed the Cumbre del Sol is on fire. This is where all the communication towers are as well as the urbanisation. Even more scary!
The fire planes and helicopters are out using their buckets, fingers crossed they get under control very quickly.
On a different note, lovely ladies, I wanted to ask for your help please........
I found hidden in my stash this panel, I have put a border on and intend to make the binding by making the backing larger and turning it over on the front.
The question is how to quilt it!
As I have done very little machine quilting, I thought I could follow the straight lines and perhaps hand quilt the outlines, then straight stitch in the border ditch, but what else??.
So what do you think, any other ideas?

I am afraid that I don't have any quilting advice, but I hope that you enjoy working on it! Stay safe from the fires and look after yourselves. I hope that all will be well, please let us know how it goes as I will be thinking of you as I am sure that others will as well. xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy, they managed to gain control reasonably quickly although over 2000 residents were evacuated and I believe 8 homes were damaged. Considering how large the urbanisation is that was very lucky for a lot of people.
DeleteOh goodness Chrissie I am sorry to hear this-hope they get it under control really quickly. I was in the south of France years ago and saw fires close-very scary. Your panel is so cute! I have done lots of cushion covers like this and always did what you suggest with the machine mainly. I would then add some fun buttons maybe-I did that with a garden scene and it worked well xx
ReplyDeleteIts the speed of it, we are so tinder dry but they do have patrols, especially on our mountain. Thanks for your ideas, I love embellishing with button and beads too xcx

Thanks Fiona, you are so good at quilting, I did manage to do some outlines of the characters with the machine as I wasn't sure my hands were up to hand quilting, but I shall give it a go xcx
DeleteHoping all goes well with you and the fires are under control very soon. I think maybe as you suggested, following the lines and around the figures, then straight lines in the border. The crosshatching like Fiona suggested would also be an effective way to quilt the background.
