Tiddly bits

We had friends and their visitors round on Thursday evening for a wine and kareoke session. I made some roasted spicy chickpeas, which disappeared so fast I don´t think they were in the bowl more than 5 minutes. I also tend to do little roasties with garlic granules and rosemary in olive oil with a curry mayo dip. A finger food that everyone seems to love and helps soak up any indulgence on the vino front. Lovely company and a lot of singing fun.

Yesterday was a beautiful day, reaching 24 in the Naya, it was rather a bad day for me with the fibro, it seems to be taking me a long time to to recoup after the UK trip. Anyway I spent most of the day up there actually doing some hand sewing which I haven´t done for ages.
There is something satisfying in transforming  little pieces of fabric that is destined for the bin into something useful, although I confess they don´t go in the bin, but into the scrap box.

Coasters, just need to put their backs on now

During our stay at MIL´s I spotted her bag of yarn and pattern, she obviously hadn´t started her project since we were there last time. I could see why when I checked the pattern, she had asked for something to knit that was pretty and easy as she hadn´t knitted for years, this is what she was given.

Very pretty, yes, easy absolutely not, the lacy effect being produced with so many through back of loops, slip stitches yarn over and k2tg that it even made my eyes cross. There was no way she would tackle something so complicated even with her new glasses. It´s such a shame that at 89 when she wanted to have another go she was rather let down.
So me in my wisdom suggested that I take the project and knit it for her
famous last words
I started it 3 times, can only seem to knit it when all is quiet and full attention  is given, but I have got this far

Then of course they pattern calls for increasing stitches but states to keep it in pattern
New learning curve for me this, I think I am getting there, but am a bit worried about the decreasing, how on earth to you keep the pattern.
So all you expert knitters out there, any ideas, thoughts or suggestions?

I just had to take this of Tammy, here she is crammed into my serviette box which is about 6" square, ruining the serviettes of course, but by the look in her eyes makes you wonder if she had sampled the vino behind her.

Poor thing, she has been suffering with her teeth lately and Friday saw her at the vets having all but the front ones out. She was so wobbly and spaced out on her return, but she went straight to the food bowl and once the gums harden she will be fine. Simba was the same and he eats the hard biscuits with ease.

Enjoy what is left of the weekend
take care

  1. Awww, the photo of Tammy made me laugh, she looks as though she knows she shouldn't be in the serviette box but doesn't care. I'm sure having her teeth out will be a relief for her if they've been bothering her. I hate patterns which tell you to make adjustments but keep to pattern, it's a case of doing lots of maths and hoping for the best. Hope the fibro eases up soon.

    1. How on earth she squeezed in their I don´t know. I think she is feeling better now. Hmmm doesn´t bode well for the decreasing etc, just had an idea to put a life line in, that might help in case of taking back. The fibro is such a difficult beast, ok one minute then off again the next, a bit of r & r me thinks xcx

  3. Don't know where you live, but what a gorgeous Header. Wherever you live, it must be lovely!

Could you send your M-i-L a simple pattern, to have fun with? I think it's lovely, that at 89, she wanted to knit again. Wouldn't a simple pattern, let her? Btw, I am 81. :-)

Oh kitties do love little spaces, to squeeze into!!! Guess they feel safe, in a too-little space!

So happy that your kitty is having her decayed teeth removed. They must cause her pain! Oh sigh.... How much better she will feel, when they are all out.

    1. Hello, thanks for dropping by. We live in Spain, in the mountains in Costa Blanca, not to far from the sea, and yes it is lovely. Nice idea to send Mum a simple pattern, think I will ask her. Tammy is feeling better now she must have been quite uncomfortable xcx

  4. Ohhhh, I see you too, are getting those awful "mumbai escorts" comments! Grrrrrrrr...

I moderate my comments, so I put them in SPAM, immediately. And they never get Published.

  5. sounds like a fun musical night at your place. such a pretty pattern - I'm sure you will get to know the pattern soon and then be able to increase and decrease with ease….. (says the very simple knitter!) the yarn is a lovely colour. KItty looks like she is warning you to leave her in the box... with or without her teeth! cats are funny with boxes...

    1. As we have all of Chris´s professional gear it is suddenly suggested that a sing song is needed and everyone piles round. Slowly plodding on with the pattern, think marking a row with a life line would be a good idea. Tammy was being as grumpy as she looks that night, better now xcx

  6. I like the coasters - hand sewing can be a real gentle thing to do. I am sorry to hear you haven't been so well. We have a friend who has fibro and she says she just has to take each day as it comes and be kind to herself.
Hope the teeth operation goes smoothly for Tammy.
    Best wishes

    1. Thank you, I agree, I enjoy hand sewing and embroidery rather than being tied to a machine, so much easier to take and go. Yes it is very much like that, all about management (which sometimes goes completely out of the window lol) xcx

  9. The sweater is pretty, but if the goal is to have your Mom be able to knit again, why not find a different pattern for her. One that's more straight forward, or perhaps a pretty shawl pattern...a flat which she could enjoy working on and feel accomplished with when finished?

    1. Chris didn´t even know his Mum could knit so it must have been years since she did. Good suggestion, I will put it to her, not sure if it was just a whim or she really wanted something to do as she is not really a person into crafts xcx
